The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has announced new funding for pragmatic clinical trials, large simple trials or large-scale observational studies that compare the relative effectiveness of two or more alternatives for improving patient-centered outcomes.
Up to $1 million in direct costs for each study will be available through the initiative, “Pragmatic Clinical Studies to Evaluate Patient-Centered Outcomes.”
PCORI has a list of priority topics, though any study that addresses critical choices faced by patients, caregivers, clinicians and/or delivery systems will be considered.
Deadline for letters of intent is May 4. Application deadline is Aug. 8, and awards will be announced in January 2017.

Venous & Lymphatic Disorders on PubMed; Publication Fully Searchable
The Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders is now indexed on PubMed, from Issue 1 Volume 1. PubMed is often the first stop for researchers because it comprises more than 25 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals and online books.
Not only does this accomplishment increase the visibility of the Journal, it confirms the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders as the premier international journal of medical, endovascular and surgical care of venous and lymphatic disorders.
Only 12 to 15 percent of the journals reviewed are recommended for inclusion in MEDLINE, so it is clear that this accomplishment is due in great part to the fact that every issues of JVSVL includes high-quality and rigorously peer-reviewed articles.

Interested in Serving on an SVS Committee? Apply by April 1
Those interested in serving on an SVS committee should complete a short application by Friday, April 1. Appointments will be announced in late May.
New this year: only applicants completing the separate conflict of interest disclosure will be considered for appointment to a committee. Relationships with industry do not disqualify one from committee service, but relationships must be disclosed.
The Appointments Committee, comprised of the president, president-elect and vice president, strives for well-balanced committees with representatives from all practice types, regions and ages. Regrettably, not all applicants are appointed to committees as there are always many more applicants than open positions.

Interactive Practice Guidelines App Upgraded; now includes diabetic foot ulceration information
The SVS mobile app (SVS-iPG) that offers SVS practice guidelines on the diagnosis and management of a number of vascular conditions has been upgraded to include clinical recommendations on treating diabetic foot ulceration.
They are the first-ever clinical practice guidelines from multiple disciplines, based upon a meta-analysis for treating diabetic foot ulcers. Creating the guidelines followed three years of study by SVS in collaboration with the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Society for Vascular Medicine. Recommendations cover five major areas.
Users will need to update the interactive Practice Guidelines app. To update, visit the Apple App Store or Google Play, which also is where the free app can be obtained.
The app also has been updated to solve an issue with font color that made recommendations difficult to read.

Late-breaking Abstracts Accepted Until March 31
SVS is soliciting abstracts for a late-breaking session at the 2016 Vascular Annual Meeting. Preference will be given to prospective, multi-institutional trials and investigational device exemption studies.
Because the intent is to provide attendees with true “late-breaking” trial data, retrospective analyses will not be considered.
Due to publication deadlines, accepted late-breaking abstracts will not be included in the Journal of Vascular Surgery VAM supplement; however, manuscript submission will be required.
Abstracts must be submitted by 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time, Thursday, March 31, via CadmiumCD.
For more information email the Education Department or call 800-258-7188.
